CANNABIS SOCIAL CLUBS

On these pages you can find information on Cannabis Social Clubs. CSCs are non profit associations that organize the professional, collective cultivation of limited amounts of cannabis, just enough to cover the personal needs of their club members. Examples of these clubs currently exist in Belgium (Trekt Uw Plant), Spain (Ganjazz and Pannagh) and Switzerland (Die Grüne Blume) while in other countries, similar initiatives are in preparation (France, Germany), or implemented (Canada and the United States).

A PEACE PROPOSAL IN THE WAR ON NATURE

Cannabis Social Clubs are associations of citizens who want to organise the cultivation of a limited amount of cannabis to satisfy their personal needs in a transparent way that is controllable by authorities. They establish the amount that is necessary for their personal consumption in agreement with legal standards that are valid in their country, and organise a closed circuit of consumption, distribution and consumption without any commercial activities having to take place.

UK GOVERNMENT RESPONDS TO CSC PETITION

The Government’s message has always been that cannabis is a harmful and illegal drug that should not be taken. It has a number of acute and chronic health effects and prolonged use can induce dependence. Most cannabis is smoked and smoking, in any form, is dangerous. Even the occasional use of cannabis can pose significant dangers for people with mental health problems, such as schizophrenia, and particular efforts need to be made to encourage abstinence in such individuals.

LEGAL SITUATION OF CANNABIS IN EUROPE

To set up a Cannabis Social Club, you need to check the legal possibilities in your country. In most European countries, cannabis legislation and practice are two very different things. In theory, production, distribution and consumption of cannabis that contains more than 0,3 % of THC is forbidden in all countries, following the legislation that is based on the UN Conventions on Illicit Drugs. In practice, most European authorities have installed a grey zone, where it is up to the individual policeman or judge to apply these laws.
