Prohibitionist policies have failed to diminish drug supply and production of illegal drugs and did nothing to improve the situation of the drug users, their direct surroundings and society as a whole.
Prohibition has not reduced drug consumption either. It has only made it more dangerous. Prohibition creates violent conflicts and promotes social exclusion. In Malaysia and 21 other countries in the world people who get caught with even a small quantity of drugs, receive the death penalty.
Thanks to prohibition the drug market is in the hands of criminal organisations. Their profits disturb the economy, corrupt authorities and fuel armed groups.
The total public expenditure that is needed to maintain global drug prohibition, is estimated at 70 billion Euro, or 200 Million Euro per day.
