Roberto Saviano: ‘The black market has become the biggest market in the world.’

Published on 27 December 2015  by encod
Roberto Saviano already lives under armed guard after writing about the Neapolitan mafia. Now he is determined to uncover capitalism’s complicity with the narco-lords of South America Pablo Escobar was “the first to understand that it’s not the world of cocaine that must orbit around the markets, but the markets that must rotate around cocaine”. Of course, Escobar didn’t put it that way: this heretical truth was posited by Roberto Saviano in his latest book Zero Zero Zero, the most important (...)

A cannabis flower’s utility as medicine or recreation is determined solely by the user, but in the era of legalization and commerce the distinction matters. Ask your local state government and you will get a variety of answers. Mexico yesterday granted the country’s first ever permits to grow and consume cannabis, in what advocates called a step towards legislation. Health officials authorised the permits one month after Mexico’s Supreme Court ruled that the individuals- members of a pro-cannabis group- could legally produce marijuana for their own recreational use. The landmark decision could have widespread implications for the country, where billions of pounds worth of cannabis are cultivated and trafficked (...)

Czech citizen takes his government to European Human Rights Court for cannabis prohibition
Published on 10 December 2015  by encod
The complaint is filed according to article 39 in regulations of the European Court to be treated as urgent due to long-term and repetitive violations of the articles 2 and 3 (i.e. the right to life and the prohibition of torture) of the European Convention on Human Rights, documented to the Court already in the previous season also by medics and expert witnesses.

The European Coalition for Just and Effective Drug Policies, is a pan-European network of currently 160 NGO’s and individual experts involved in the drug issue on a daily base. We are the European section of an International Coalition, which consists of more than 400 NGOs from around the world that have adhered to a Manifesto for Just and Effective Drug Policies (established in 1998). Among our members are organisations of cannabis and other drug users, of health workers, researchers, grassroot activists as well as companies.
