Who?

ENCOD is a platform founded in 1993 by European citizens affected and/or concerned by the current international war on drugs. ENCOD members unite representatives of drug consumers, their relatives, health workers, experts, entrepreneurs and activists from the whole of Europe.

What?

Drug prohibition should be replaced by a rational and balanced approach as the only sensible way of reducing drug related problems. Ending the war on drugs will improve the living standards of hundreds of millions of people, while significantly diminishing one of the major income sources of organized crime.

How?

We facilitate the exchange of information and experiences among our members. We publish news bulletins on the state of drug policy in Europe, and we maintain a website with information and action appeals.

We build alliances with parliament members, local and regional authorities, in order to produce a positive influence on drug policy.

We promote peaceful activism aimed at the media and the public opinion, in order to create public debate on the need to end prohibition.

When?

From 2007 onwards, the European Commission wants to start a dialogue with civil society on drug policy. ENCOD has always played a crucial role in the establishment of this dialogue. We will do everything to ensure that it will be a sincere dialogue, accessible to all citizens.

In March 2009, the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs will meet in Vienna, Austria, in order to decide on the future of global strategies against drugs. ENCOD will present a massive appeal to the UN and national governments to consider the freedom to grow plants for personal use or non-commercial purposes as the human right of every adult citizen of the world.

For free?

We do not receive any support from authorities or private foundations. It is thanks to the contributions of our members that ENCOD exists and grows. With more members we can do more.

The yearly budget is 60.000 euro. It breaks out like this:

Office costs 10.000

Travel costs 10.000

Campaign costs 10.000

Salary costs 30.000

Total 60.000
